Nigeria defeated Tunisia 1-0 to earn a winning start in their quest for an eighth TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations title.
A first-half strike from Auwal Ibrahim gave the Flying Eagles the victory, in a tightly contested Group B opener of the 2025 U20 AFCON.
Nigeria dominated the early proceedings, but a resilient Tunisian side denied the Flying Eagles several chances.
However, in the 38th minute, Odinaka Okoro’s well-weighted assist found Ibrahim, who made no mistake from close range to put Nigeria in front.
The North Africans almost responded immediately, but chances from Omar Ben Ali and Anis Doubal were denied by Nigeria goalkeeper and defenders.
The 2023 semi-finalist had a great chance to level in the 87th minute, but Doubal’s strike was smothered in the centre of the goal.
The win earned Nigeria three vital points, as they top the Group B table, with Morocco and Kenya yet to play.
