Al-Ahli defeated Kawasaki Frontale to secure the AFC Champions League Elite title, for the first time in history.
The Saudi Arabian side won 2-0 over the Japanese, courtesy of two first-half goals from Galeno and Franck Kessie.
Al-Ahli became the 25th different side to win the competition, after a dominant performance in Jeddah.
After a dominant display from the beginning of the game, Al-Ahli took the lead in the 35th minute. Galeno curled home a delightful strike from outside the area, into the top-right corner with a dipping strike from Roberto Firmino’s simple offload.
The Saudis took the lead seven minutes later, with Firmino was again the creator. The former Liverpool attacker sent a lofted right-sided delivery for Kessie to thump a header beyond Louis Yamaguchi.
Meanwhile, Kawasaki dumped Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr out in the semi-finals. However , they were unable to achieve the same feat against another Saudi-based team, offering little threat, as they were by unable to register a single shot on target.
The victory makes Al-Ahli the third club from Saudi Arabia to win the Asian title, after Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad.
Meanwhile, Al-Ahli also won the tournament with a single loss, becoming the fifth to achieve such.
