Napoli secured the Italian Seria A title for the second time in three seasons, after a 2-0 home win over Cagliari.
Goals from Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku gave the Naples the victory, as Antonio Conte’s side clinched the Scudetto.
Heading into the last round of the season, Napoli held a one-point lead over title rivals Inter Milan. A win was all Conte’s side needed for the title, regardless of Inter’s results against Como.
Both sides claimed a 2-0 win, but Conte’s Napoli clinched the title, with a point ahead of Inter.
Meanwhile, Napoli’s victory was their 24th of the season, as the Naples only lost four times. They also only conceded just 27 goals in the 38 rounds played.
The title looked to be slipping away as Inter Milan were already ahead against Como. However, McTominay opened the lead for Napoli to strengthen their hold on the title.
The former Manchester United man sent a flying volley into the back of the net from Matteo Politano’s cross in the 42nd minute.
Lukaku, another Conte’s signing then sealed the victory in the 51st minute. The Belgian controlled a long pass, dribbled past two defenders before hitting the net.
Napoli went on to claim the title by one point, igniting celebrations at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Head Coach, Conte, who watched the match from the crowds, after getting sent off last weekend, won the league in his first season. This makes it his fifth Serie A title, and third in his first season with a club.
Napoli’s success also made it their fourth league victory. They claimed it twice in the 1980s, inspired by the magic of Diego Maradona, and two seasons ago under the management of Luciano Spalletti.
Meanwhile, McTominay was honored as Serie A player of the season, after the end of the game.
The Scottish international was instrumental for Napoli, as he scored 12 goals in the league, two behind Lukaku. He also assisted six, making it 18 goals contribution in his first season in Serie A.
