Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook underwent surgery on his right hand to repair two breaks sustained during the 2024-25 season. The procedure took place on May 27, 2025, and Westbrook announced the news on social media.

Westbrook expressed his gratitude for the support he received throughout the season and his eagerness to return to the court at full capacity. He wrote, “This morning, I’m undergoing surgery on my right hand to fix two breaks that happened during the season. I’m grateful for everyone’s support all year and I can’t wait to be back out there at 100% soon. The comeback is already in motion.”

The breaks in Westbrook’s right hand likely affected his performance on the court, particularly in the playoffs. During the Nuggets’ series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook’s fingers were heavily taped, which may have been an attempt to stabilize the injury.

Westbrook is expected to undergo rehabilitation to regain full functionality of his hand. Despite the setback, he is likely to exercise his $3.47 million player option for the 2025-26 season, indicating plans to continue with the Denver Nuggets.

Before the injury, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game in 75 appearances during the regular season. However, he struggled in the playoffs, particularly against the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he shot 34.8% overall and 21.9% from three-point range.
