Iga Swiatek extended her streak in Paris to 23 consecutive matches with a commanding win Wednesday over Emma Raducanu.
The 23-year-old Polish player who is a four-time Roland Garros champion and three-time defending winner defeated the Brits 6-1, 6-2 to advance into the third round and make it 23rd win on the bounce at the clay major on Wednesday.
“Well I don’t know. You guys tell me” Iga reacted when question on extending her 23 consecutive wins at Roland Garros.
“Probably the topspin I play with. I love playing here. This place inspires me and makes me work harder. I think having some time off before helped me a bit. I’m ready to fight for it and compete”, she concluded.
Iga Swiatek is now 37-2 at Roland Garros, the second-best winning percentage (.949) of the Open era, and has 37 match-wins at the French Open, most among current players.
Only Chris Evert (29), Monica Seles (25) and Justine Henin (24) — a Who’s Who of clay-court tennis — have won more consecutive matches in this tournament.
Also Iga Swiatek is now the only player to reach the Third Round in all the 21 Singles Grand Slam events played since 2020, men’s included – the second-best in this span is Novak Djokovic with 18/21, before his R2 at Roland Garros 2025.
Swiatek can draw even with Henin in Friday’s third round where she’ll play the winner of the later match between Jaqueline Cristian and qualifier Sara Bejlek.
