Amanda Anisimova’s remarkable 2025 season continued on Thursday night at the US Open as the 23-year-old American booked her place in a second Grand Slam final in just two months. In a thrilling three-set battle, Anisimova rallied from a set down to overcome two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-3 in just under three hours on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The win marks a historic moment for Anisimova, who became the first player ever to defeat Osaka in a Grand Slam semifinal. Speaking after the match, the American praised her opponent’s comeback journey:

> “Naomi is playing amazing tennis. She’s back where she belongs,” Anisimova said. “I told her after the match how proud I am of her—coming back after having a baby and competing at this level is incredible. She really pushed me to the limit, and I wasn’t sure I’d make it past the finish line. I just had to dig deep.”

With the victory, Anisimova now advances to face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday’s final—a rematch of their Wimbledon semifinal earlier this summer, where Anisimova stunned the Belarusian in straight sets. Sabalenka secured her spot in the final after battling past American Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day.

Reflecting on that Wimbledon clash, Sabalenka admitted she must show more conviction this time:

> “I have to trust myself and go after my shots,” Sabalenka said. “At Wimbledon, I doubted too many decisions, and it gave her opportunities. This time I need to be brave, fight, and trust my game.”

The stage is now set for a blockbuster US Open final between Anisimova and Sabalenka—two of the tour’s most powerful shot-makers—promising a high-intensity battle for the 2025 crown.
