Taylor Fritz delivered another stunning performance at the 2025 Laver Cup in San Francisco, clinching the title for Team World with a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Alexander Zverev on Sunday. The American star, fresh off his upset of World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, became the difference-maker as his back-to-back wins over Top 3 players secured five crucial points in a 15-9 triumph. It marked Team World’s third title in the past four years.
“We’re going to have a fun night,” said Fritz after the victory. “Definitely popping some champagne in the locker room in a few minutes.”
Playing with confidence on the black court, Fritz controlled rallies with heavy groundstrokes and relentless baseline pressure. His net play proved decisive, winning 23 of 26 points at the net before sealing the contest with a crisp backhand volley. The win also gave new captain Andre Agassi a dream debut, with the American legend’s passion and energy visibly lifting his squad throughout the weekend.
Earlier in the day, Carlos Alcaraz gave Team Europe hope with two gritty wins. The Spaniard paired with Casper Ruud to win doubles before dismantling Francisco Cerundolo 6-2, 6-1. However, despite his heroics, Team Europe fell short in their comeback bid.
Australia’s Alex de Minaur also played a starring role for Team World, downing Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-4 and combining with Alex Michelsen in doubles earlier in the competition. “It’s a great team event,” said De Minaur. “I’m glad I could get a couple of wins for the team.”
Fritz’s decisive victory sealed the deal, confirming Team World’s dominance and underscoring their rise as the new powerhouse of the Laver Cup.
