Carlos Alcaraz is back on top of men’s tennis after clinching the 2025 US Open title with a commanding victory over Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard sealed a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 triumph on Sunday to reclaim the No. 1 spot in the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time since 2023.

The 22-year-old begins his fifth stint as World No. 1 and his 37th week overall at the summit. Having overtaken Sinner in the live rankings at the start of the tournament, Alcaraz piled on the pressure before confirming his status with a clinical display in the final.

This isn’t the first time Alcaraz has combined history with success in New York. Back in 2022, he defeated Casper Ruud to win his maiden Grand Slam and become the youngest World No. 1 in history at 19 years and four months. Now, three years later, he has repeated the feat in another high-stakes showdown.

For Sinner, the loss brings an end to his 65-week reign at the top. The Italian made history in June 2024 by becoming the first from his nation to reach No. 1, holding the position longer than many legends, behind only Federer, Connors, and Hewitt in debut reign length.

Fittingly, Alcaraz follows in the footsteps of his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, who reached No. 1 after the 2003 US Open. With his second title at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz has firmly reestablished himself as the man to beat.
