Barcelona defeated Espanyol in the Catalan derby to clinch the 2024/25 Spanish La Liga title.

The Blaugrana won 2-0 over the 10-man Espanyol, courtesy of goals from Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez.

Hansi Flick’s side have now made it a domestic treble victory this season, having secured the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey.

The league triumph over neighbours, Espanyol made it their third title this season in Flick’s first year.

The game ended goalless in the first half, before 17-year-old sensation Yamal, inspired the Catalans to snatch a win away from home.

The Spanish wonderkid scored a trademark curler in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock, giving Barca the lead, before assisting Lopez’s late goal.

Meanwhile, the hosts were the better side in the first interval, looking to claim all three points. Urko Gonzalez broke in behind in the fourth minute but rolled his shot narrowly wide of the bottom-left corner.

Barca goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny, denied Javi Puado from another one-on-one chance, as the visitors were fortunate to reach half-time levelled.

The league leaders then turned the game around early in the second half. Receiving a pass from Dani Olmo, Yamal darted inside from the right wing, before whipping an unstoppable effort beyond Joan Garcia.

Espanyol hopes then went blurry as they were reduced to ten men, when defender Leandro Cabrera was sent off for striking Yamal in the torso.

All went dark for the home side as Barcelona sealed the contest with the second goal in stoppage time. Yamal fed Lopez with the ball, who then rifled into the bottom-left corner.

Hansi Flick’s Barca are now the Spanish champions, beating the former winner, Real Madrid to the title.
