Ángel Di Maria has joined Argentine club, Rosario Central, his boyhood club on a free transfer.

Following his decision to leave Benfica at the end of the season, the World Cup winner returned home, back to where it all started.

Di Maria, who retired from international football last year, began his career at Rosario Central in 2005 before joining Benfica in 2007.

He then moved to Spain to join Spanish giants,Real Madrid, before switching to Manchester United in England.

After a season with United, Di Maria then joined Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, before rejoining Benfica again in 2023.

The Argentine won 30 titles during his stints in Europe, including the UEFA Champions League with Madrid.

Di Maria also claimed six international honours with Argentina; two Copa America, the 2022 World Cup and the 2008 Olympic Gold.

The winger will now be joining Rosario Central after Benfica’s participation in next month’s Club World Cup in the United States.

“Our history together has more pages to write. Welcome home,” the Rosario-based club celebrated the move on X.
