Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has delivered a calm but firm message in his pre-match press conference, insisting the Blues must concentrate on their own progress as they prepare for Friday’s London derby against West Ham.

The Italian addressed questions about his squad, starting with striker Nicolas Jackson and forward Christopher Nkunku, both left out of contention despite being fit. “They are both fine, but because of possible moves before the end of the transfer window, they will not be involved,” Maresca explained. “We just have to wait and see what happens before September 1.”

With Levi Colwill sidelined after an ACL injury, there was speculation that Chelsea might dip back into the market. But Maresca stressed his belief in the group already at his disposal. “We are looking at internal solutions. I trust the players we have. It’s important for me to show confidence in them.”

He also moved to shut down rumours around defender Wesley Fofana, whose future has been questioned in recent weeks. “Wes is very happy. He’s training every day, he’s back with the group, and he is focused on Chelsea. We are happy with him and there is nothing else to add.”

Looking ahead to the clash, Maresca struck a composed tone. “We respect West Ham, but the most important thing is to focus on ourselves. Step by step, we are building something here. Every game is another chance to grow.”

Chelsea will be seeking their first away win of the new campaign, while their manager continues to preach patience and progress.
