McTominay wins Serie A’s Player of the Season

Napoli midfielder, Scott McTominay, has been named as the Serie A Player of the Season for 2024/25 campaign.

McTominay, who joined from Manchester United at the beginning of the season, was honoured after their victory over Cagliari.

The former Manchester United man was on the scoresheet, as his goal helped Napoli secure the league title.

The Partenopei went on to win 2-0 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with Romelu Lukaku netting the second goal.

Few minutes after the victory, McTominay was named Best Overall Player in Serie A, as Napoli won their fourth Scudetto.

Receiving the award, the Scottish international said, “ I’m lost for words, it’s incredible. For me to experience this, it’s just a dream.

“The sacrifice of every single player in this group is just incredible. The people deserve it, as they’ve been behind us from day one. For me to come here and experience this, it’s just a dream.

“I forgot about the goal, as there was so much going on. We were concentrated, but the anxiety and the nerves were obviously there. Now we need to enjoy it with our people, next season we’ve got to come back next year with the same energy and never drop.

“You can tell every time with Conte the energy is troppo alto, that’s what I learned, troppo alto, and we need the same attitude next season.”

McTominay scored 12 league goals in 33 Serie A appearances, along with six assists, clinching his first league title.

His 18 goal contributions is the most from a midfielder in his Serie A debut season – and three more than Kaka during his first term at AC Milan.

Meanwhile, AS Roma’s Mike Svilar was named the best goalkeeper, while Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni won the best defender’s award.

AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders was the league’s best midfielder, as Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui won the best forward award, as he was the league’s highest goalscorer, with 25 goals.

Como’s Nico Paz was also named the best U23 player of Serie A’s 2024/25 campaign. The youngster had 14 goal contribution, scoring six times and assisted eight, as the newly-promoted side retained their stay in the league.
