Sporting Lisbon clinched the 2025 Taça de Portugal trophy with a dramatic 3-1 extra-time win over arch-rivals Benfica.

The Portuguese League champions came from behind to secure their 18th Portuguese Cup title and completed a long-awaited domestic double, their first since 2002.

A late penalty goal from Viktor Gyokeres saved the Lions, sending the game into extra-time. However, Sporting sealed the victory at the Estádio Nacional do Jamor with two extra-time goals

The final started intensely from the start, but it was Benfica who struck first. Orkun Kökçü opened the scoring in the 47th minute, giving the Eagles the lead.

The trophy looked to be heading to the red side of Lisbon, but a mistake from Renato Sanches costed Benfica. The former Bayern Munich midfielder conceded a stoppage-time penalty, allowing Gyokeres to level the scoreline in the 90+11 minute.

With the game forced to extra time, Sporting dominate the play and completely stole home the trophy.

Conrad Harder put the Lions ahead with a well-placed finish in the 99th minute. Francisco Trincao then added the icing on the cake, sealing the win with a stunning goal at 120+1 minutes.

The victory marked Sporting’s 18th Portuguese Cup title and their seventh historic double, a feat they last achieved in 2002.
