Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Black Stars of Ghana to set up Jamaica clash in Unity Cup final

Goals from Cyriel Dessers and Razak Simpson’s own goal gave Nigeria the 2-1 victory, as Eagles withstood second-half fightback to book Saturday’s final

With the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and some key players all rested, Nigeria fought hard, taking a two-goal lead at first-half.

Dessers opened the lead for the Super Eagles, making the most of his rare international call-up. The Rangers striker, who was found by Ismaila Sodiq, cushioned well before firing past Ghana’s Benjamin Asare.

Nigeria doubled the lead few minutes later, courtesy of Ajayi’s header, which went in off Simpson for a own goal.

Samuel Chukwueze sent an in swinger from close to the halfway line after Nigeria won a freekick. Then, Ajayi jumped highest to head the ball in the box, which hits Simpson’s and went into the net.

The Super Eagles almost made it three before half-time as Wilfred Ndidi’s effort was cleared off the line.

Following the return of the second-half, Ghana came back stronger as they piled pressure on Nigeria.

The game sprung to life with the Ghanaians reducing the deficit in the 69th minute, courtesy of Brandon Thomas-Asante.

However, Nigeria goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali came to the rescue with a superb save to deny Abu Francis an equaliser.

Eric Chelle’s Nigeria ran out victorious with a hard-fought win to set a showdown with Jamaica on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Reggae Boyz came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.
