The Oklahoma City Thunder overwhelmed the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 124-94 victory in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals, securing a 4-1 series win and a spot in the NBA Finals. The Thunder’s dominance was evident from the opening tip, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the charge with 12 of his game-high 34 points in the first quarter.
The Timberwolves struggled to find their stance, scoring just nine points in the first quarter, their lowest total in a quarter this season. Despite a strong effort from Julius Randle (24 points, 5 rebounds) and Anthony Edwards (19 points, 6 rebounds), the Timberwolves couldn’t close the gap, trailing by as many as 33 points at halftime.
The Thunder’s big three – Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren (22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks), and Jalen Williams (19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) – delivered an impressive performance, showcasing the team’s depth and persistence. Oklahoma City outrebounded Minnesota 46-39, forced 21 turnovers, and shot 52.3% from the field.
With their spot in the NBA Finals secured, the Thunder will face the winner of the Eastern Conference finals, likely the Indiana Pacers or New York Knicks.
