The Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, winning 114-88 at the Paycom Center.
The Timberwolves took charge from the beginning, with Jaden McDaniels scoring the first five points of the conference finals. However, the Thunder’s defense quickly adjusted, and Anthony Edwards’ early ankle injury didn’t hinder the Timberwolves’ momentum as much as expected, thanks to Julius Randle’s impressive performance. Randle took over in the second quarter, scoring 12 points to keep the Timberwolves’ offense afloat. The Timberwolves led 48-44 at halftime, with their half-court defense suffocating the Thunder offense.
The third quarter turned out to be a different story, as the Thunder went on a 15-2 run, led by Jalen Williams’ outstanding performance. The Thunder’s offense appreciated, while the Timberwolves struggled to find their rhythm from deep. Oklahoma City outscored Minnesota 32-18 in the third quarter, taking a 10-point lead into the fourth.
The Thunder continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the charge. Despite Anthony Edwards’ return to the game, the Timberwolves couldn’t buy a bucket, and the Thunder cruised to a 26-point victory.
The Thunder’s dominant performance in Game 1 puts them in a favorable position in the series. The Timberwolves will need to regroup and adjust their strategy to take down the top-seeded Thunder. The series resumes on Thursday for Game 2 in Oklahoma City.
