Carlos Alcaraz once again proved why he is regarded as one of the brightest stars of modern tennis, producing a brilliant all-round display to defeat Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and capture his second US Open crown.

The victory not only denied Sinner back-to-back titles at Flushing Meadows but also ensured that Alcaraz will replace the Italian at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings on Monday, ending his rival’s impressive 65-week reign as World No.1.

The final, played in front of a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium, marked the third straight Grand Slam showdown between the two men, underlining their growing rivalry. Apart from a strong second set from Sinner—who rediscovered his baseline rhythm to momentarily level the contest—Alcaraz was in control. The Spaniard struck 42 winners to Sinner’s 21 and lost just nine points behind his first serve during a clinical two-hour and 42-minute performance.

Speaking after the win, an emotional Alcaraz praised his inner circle. “My team, my family, I am really lucky to have you guys. Every achievement I make is thanks to you, and this title is no different,” he said.

Sinner, who has also been outstanding throughout the 2025 season, was gracious in defeat. “You were the better player today. Enjoy this moment, it’s well deserved,” he told his rival.

With seven titles and a Tour-leading 61 victories this year, Alcaraz continues to dominate the ATP circuit. His triumph also extends his lead over Sinner by 2,590 points in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, putting him firmly in control of the battle for the prestigious Year-End No.1 honour.

At just 22, Alcaraz has now captured six Grand Slam titles, making him the second-youngest man in the Open Era—after Bjorn Borg—to achieve the feat.
