Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola has said he will not alter his management style in response to Roy Keane’s branding of him as showing off for his on-pitch discussion with Erling Haaland.

Guardiola was captured on camera engaging Haaland tactically following his side’s 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United last weekend, but Keane told Sky Sports “It’s all for show

You can have that chat in the dressing room. What’s the big deal?”

Responding to Keane, Guardiola said: “I respect Roy Keane a lot.

“I can avoid it [talking to players on the pitch]. Maybe Roy is right but it happens. I don’t need at my age to do something for the people. Sometimes I go inside, sometimes say hi to the referees. It’s what I feel in the moment.

“What I say, I don’t overreact or do something for people. We were happy, we have to admit it. I was happy with the way we played. The result gives confidence in the way we play. We are in a good way. After we review the game and analyse the reason why we played good. I was really happy at that moment, I found Erling, and made a comment, and he make feedback and another comment and another comment.

“We were walking, I could have done inside of course. I’ve done many times in the locker room – look at that image, that action. It’s fresh the players have that image in the moment. Sometimes you make the impact that remains here (head). Afterwards, they have three days off. Forget it. Sometimes happens, sometimes doesn’t happen because I go inside.”
