Joel Embiid, who has Bell’s palsy, had to wear a large knee brace for Game 3 in order to support the 7-foot player, who had been sidelined by injuries the whole season.
Before experiencing a type of facial paralysis, Embiid fell into a deep depression due to the aftereffects of his most recent knee surgery. In Game 3 of their Eastern Conference first-round series, Embiid led the Philadelphia 76ers to a 125-114 victory on Thursday night. Embiid scored 50 points, making all four of his 3-point tries and scoring 18 in what could have been a game-saving third quarter.
Embiid made 19 of 21 free throws, went 13 of 19 from the field, and drained five 3-pointers.
Embiid became the first player in NBA history to score 50 points with less than 20 shots in a playoff game after he set a franchise record with 70 points against San Antonio in January.
The NBA MVP from the previous season, Joel Embiid, eventually got the South Philadelphia crowd, which had a strong New York influence, to start cheering for the local side. In the third quarter, the All-Star centre performed like to a shooting guard and helped to salvage the season.
When Embiid heated up, the Sixers chipped away at a three-point halftime disadvantage. He made one 3-pointer, then two more, the latter two of which Tyrese Maxey assisted, to put the Sixers ahead 82-72. His fourth three made the score 98-85.
During the quarter, Maxey added two more 3-pointers, and the 76ers scored 43 points (9 of 12) from beyond the arc.
Throughout the entire game, Embiid remained composed and active on both ends of the court. Embiid finished the first half with 17 points, three fouls, and even dragged Mitchell Robinson to the floor. Despite this, the squad was once again not good enough to appear like a contender against the Knicks.
The Knicks’ leading scorer with 39 points and 13 assists was Jalen Brunson. Josh Hart scored 20 points, but DiVincenzo only managed five. Josh Hart’s incredible 3-point shooting in New York was an unanticipated benefit for the Knicks. Maxey scored 25 points in the end. After Game 2, Kelly Oubre Jr., who had reportedly been involved in an automobile accident, scored 15 points and appeared to be healthy. Cam Payne scored 11 points with three 3-pointers.
After the NBA claimed that the officials in Game 2 missed multiple late calls, Game 3 was officiated without any major disagreements, with the exception of a contested decision on Embiid’s flagrant.
Embiid attempted 21 free throws, more than New York did during the whole game; the Knicks converted 13 of 19.
