Novak Djokovic maintains a commanding lead over the No. 1 Pepperstone ATP Ranking despite losing in the Australian Open semifinals, while winner Jannik Sinner has an opportunity to challenge for World No. 2 in the upcoming months.
Djokovic only needs to defend 180 points against Dubai, where he made it to the semifinals the previous year, at Miami at the end of March. The 36-year-old has a significant chance to earn points because he did not participate in Miami or Indian Wells in 2023.
In the next two months, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Sinner—the three men immediately below Djokovic—will all be defending a sizable amount of points. With 2,850 points, World No. 3 and Australian Open finalist Medvedev has the most to protect in the group.
The 27-year-old had a run of success in 2018 that included final appearances at Indian Wells and victories in Rotterdam, Doha, Dubai, and Miami.

Sinner will trail World No. 2 Alcaraz by just 545 points if you take away all the points that will drop for the quartet through March. This presents an opportunity for the Italian to sustain his form from the previous six months. The 22-year-old advanced to the championship match of the Nitto ATP Finals after winning ATP 500 titles in Beijing and Vienna.
Last Sunday, he achieved his greatest achievement to date at Melbourne Park, winning the Grand Slam. In his last 21 games, Sinner has won 20 of them.
The Pepperstone ATP Rankings’ Top 4 players have pulled away from the field. No player is within 3,000 points of Djokovic, Alcaraz, Medvedev, and Sinner, who are all within 1,545 points of each other. Alexander Zverev, ranked sixth, has 5,030 points, while Andrey Rublev, ranked fifth, has 5,050 points.
With 410 weeks at the top, Djokovic has more than any other player in the history of the Pepperstone ATP Rankings (since 1973). Throughout his career, Roger Federer held the top ranking for 310 weeks.
Sinner is at a career-high World No. 4, while Alcaraz and Medvedev have also achieved World No. 1.
