Victor Osimhen displayed a performance worthy of the current African footballer of the year, as the Nigerian scored one and assisted the other to drag Napoli back to winning ways against Cagliari.
Regardless of the 30-minute delay to kick-off, the game wasn’t short of energy, with the Partenopei particularly firing on all cylinders in a bid to secure an early opener. But despite their efforts in the first half— registering 14 attempts on goal, Napoli failed to convert any, as the game entered the break goalless at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The home team continued their attack-centred style in the second half, with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia almost finding an opener, but all efforts proved abortive until the 69th minute when Mário Rui’s cross was expertly converted by Osimhen to put his side ahead.
Three minutes later, Cagliari equalized when substitute Zito Luvumbo played Leonardo Pavoletti on for his side’s goal, before Osimhen created an assist out of nowhere for Kvaratskhelia to seal the win for Napoli on the night.
The win lifts Walter Mazzarri’s side into the top four, while Cagliari remains on 16, five points adrift 20-placed Salernitana.
