According to several sources, the Washington Wizards are allegedly close to completing a deal to send All-Star guard Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns. The contract is in the process, according to Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, who represents Beal.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Suns are exchanging Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, many pick swaps, a group of future second-round picks, and other players with Washington.
The greatest domino, though, was Beal waiving his no-trade clause in order to be traded to the Suns, according to Bartelstein on Sunday. The basic structure of the trade is complete, while there is a chance that it could ultimately involve a third team, specifically to acquire Paul.
Three-time All-Star Beal has played all ten years of his NBA career in Washington. The 29-year-old guard was taken third overall by the Wizards in the 2012 Draft, and in his 10 seasons with the organization, he has averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists.
It is the owner Mat Ishbia’s second significant purchase in Phoenix. Just days after officially taking over the Suns in February, he acquired Kevin Durant for a sizable collection of players and first-round picks.
There are three active NBA players that have participated in at least 500 games and average at least 22 points each contest. As of right now, Beal, Durant, and Booker make up the trio in Phoenix. They will make nearly $130 million in total next season, so the Suns will have to pay a hefty wage and tax price to have a chance at the championship.
Beal is beginning the second year of a contract that may run five years and pay him $251 million; the last year is up to him and would pay him $57.1 million. He owes around $207.7 million over the following four years.
Paul, an NBA 75th Anniversary Team member and 12-time All-Star, averaged a career-low 13.9 points, 8.9 assists, and 1.5 steals over 59 games last year. The four-year contract that the guard, then 37, signed with Phoenix in 2021 after assisting the team in reaching the NBA Finals has two seasons left on it.
