The Sixers have announced that about 2000 tickets will be given to NBA club fans ahead of their reverse playoff game against Philadelphia 76ers.
The team spokesperson told Keith Pompey of “The Philadelphia Inquirer” that more than 2,000 tickets are being purchased and distributed for Thursday’s sixth home game matchup against the New York Knicks by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin and Philadelphia 76ers owners Josh Harris, David Blitzer, and David Adelman.
The decision was made in response to the controversy that erupted over Knicks supporters packing the Wells Fargo Centre for Games three and four of their first-round playoff series.
First responders, medical professionals, community organisations, and other nearby Philadelphia-based groups will receive the tickets.
One could argue that Sixers fans and Knicks fans are just as devoted to one other. New Yorkers are travelling to the city of brotherly love to see NBA games because Wells Fargo Centre tickets are less expensive than Madison Square Garden, and this is creating quite a fuss.
The Knicks fell in overtime after blowing a six-point lead in the last 25.1 seconds of regulation on Tuesday at the Garden, almost ending the first-round series.
Although, Tyrese Maxey scored 46 points in the classic playoff contest including seven in the final 25.1 seconds of the fourth quarter, extending the series to a sixth game before they lost to Knicks by four points.
In the Knicks’ game four win on Sunday, fans of the orange and blue took over the arena, upsetting superstar center Joel Embiid.
Following the triumph, Knicks supporters rejoiced both inside and outside of Well Fargo Centre, yelling pro-Knicks slogans and even covering Wilt Chamberlain’s statue with a Knicks jersey.
